Each individual in your team is unique and as a result values different things. What motivates one person, won't necessarily motivate another. It is important for a leader to understand what switches each team member on, what gets them engaged, feeling inspired and motivated. The never-ending game is to figure this out for the long-term and not only for the short-term.

Motivation can be described as the reason for individuals behaving in a certain way. In the workplace, motivation translates an employee's skills, abilities and knowledge into actual work behaviour and job performance. The level of motivation can influence the amount of effort employees put into their work. Therefore, a crucial leadership task is having the ability to effectively motivate the team along the journey so that desired outcomes can be achieved.
